A self-drive tour around Ireland is an effortless and enjoyable experience. Whether you take a ten day or three week vacation, a drive around the island is the perfect way to maximize your stay.  Here’s our self-drive Ireland Itinerary that can be moulded to suit your individual travel requirements, tastes and preferences.

Arrive and begin in Dublin

You will want at least one full day to explore Dublin. Dublin is an incredibly culturally, historically and architecturally rich city.

See the famous Molloy Malone statue, go to the Guinness storehouse and visit the Trinity College Library to see the Book of Kells, one of the world’s oldest books from 800AD. Make sure you stop by some of Dublin’s famous pubs for good music and tasty food.

Dublin to Waterford  

The drive from Dublin to Waterford allows you to take in the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. After taking in some fresh mountain air you can enjoy a quick stop for some wholesome food in Kilkenny Town.

Waterford to Cork

Take the Copper Coast route towards Kinsale, Cork. This drive offers superb scenery. Once you reach Cork, a visit to the city is a must! There is plenty to see and do here!

Cork to Kerry

You are in for a treat with this section of the journey. Take the Wild Atlantic Way to Kerry and that will be one more thing ticked off your bucket list!

If you have the time you can include the Killarney National Park, the Ring of Kerry and the renounced Dingle Peninsula to this voyage.

Kerry to Galway

What is a visit to Ireland without seeing a medieval castle? Continue your Journey from Kerry to Galway and visit Bunratty Castle (it will feel like you have been taken back to the medieval ages).  

Along this drive you can also visit the stunning Cliffs of Moher. When you reach Galway, you will be surrounded by wonderful places to explore. It is worth spending at least a day in this city.

Galway to Mayo

Drive on towards Mayo and see the Connemara National Park.  We recommend you drive the Sky Road and visit Achill Island too.

Mayo to Donegal

Visit the north west coast of Ireland and take in the stunning scenery. There is a huge amount on this section of the journey to take in – the Wild Atlantic Way Coastal Drive, Glenveagh National Park and Donegal Town (we suggest three days to really take in the sights)

Donegal to Antrim

Visit the Giants Causeway, the Bushmills Distillery and experience the Causeway Coastal Drive before reaching Belfast city. At Belfast we recommend you take the black Taxi Tours and visit the Titanic Experience.

Belfast to Dublin

As you return to Dublin you can complete your voyage with through Boyne Valley and Ireland's Ancient East.
